An affiliate link may earn a commission when it leads to a qualifying purchase under a program’s rules. It is not payment for posting, and earnings are not guaranteed.
Understand what actually creates a commission
An affiliate program gives approved participants a way to attribute eligible purchases to their recommendations. The retailer or program defines which sales count, the rate, the tracking window and when payment becomes available. A click on its own does not necessarily earn anything.
Returns, cancellations and attribution rules can affect the amount eventually paid. Read the terms before making plans around a displayed balance. Treat a pending commission as pending, and keep a record of any costs you incur creating the content.
Start with useful recommendations
You can practise making helpful fashion content with a small audience. Acceptance into an affiliate program is a separate decision: programs may have audience, location, content or channel requirements. Check whether links are permitted on the platforms where you intend to share them.
Choose products you can describe honestly. Explain the size you tried, what worked, and who might prefer something different. Buying clothes only to generate content adds costs without assuring sales. Begin with items you already know and track the time the work takes.
Explain your commercial connection clearly
Tell readers when you may earn a commission or have received a benefit from a brand. Put that information where they will see it with the recommendation, rather than hiding it behind a profile link. A plain example is: “I may earn a commission if you buy through this link.”
The FTC’s US guidance and the French economy ministry’s guidance explain disclosure expectations in their respective jurisdictions. In France, commercial content needs an immediately clear commercial indication, such as “Publicité” or “Collaboration commerciale”.
